The ONYX Collection has always been about exploring different faces of darkness.
Not darkness as the absence of light...
But darkness as depth.
As mystery.
As transformation.
Every fragrance has been a different chapter in that exploration.
ONYX TOBACCO was rooted in the earth. It celebrated the beauty of the tobacco leaf the ritual of cultivation, the quiet moments, and the appreciation of raw materials in their purest form.
 
ONYX VANILLA explored desire. It revealed how comfort can become obsession, and how sweetness can carry an unexpected intensity beneath its surface.
 
Then came ONYX SMOKE.
The point where everything begins to intertwine.
Nature.
Desire.
Spirit.
Smoke.
For thousands of years, smoke has been more than something we see.
It has carried prayers toward the heavens.
It has marked ceremonies.
It has preserved stories across generations.
It transforms ordinary materials into something almost sacred.
That idea stayed with me throughout the creation of this fragrance.
I wasn't interested in recreating the smell of smoke.
I wanted to capture what smoke represents.
Movement.
Atmosphere.
Connection.
The fragrance opens with Tobacco Absolute, creating an immediate bridge back to ONYX TOBACCO. Rich, dry, earthy and unmistakably natural the leaf in its most authentic form.
Then comes Violet Leaf.
Cool.
Green.
Almost metallic.
It slices through the warmth like light entering an ancient room, introducing contrast before Juniper Berry sharpens the composition with its crisp aromatic freshness.
As the opening settles, the resins begin to emerge.
Elemi radiates with a luminous brightness.
Opoponax adds warmth and quiet depth.
Chinese Cedarwood provides structure while Orris Butter softens every transition, wrapping the composition in a refined, velvety texture.
Orris became one of the defining materials in this fragrance.
Without it, everything felt heavy.
With it, the darkness gained elegance.
Its delicate powderiness drifts through the composition like pale smoke rising through shadow.
And somewhere during its development, I realised something that completely changed how I viewed the fragrance.
Smoke isn't defined by darkness.
Smoke is revealed by contrast.
Without shadow, it disappears.
Without light, it cannot dance.
That philosophy shaped every decision that followed.
The base was never designed to overpower.
It was designed to support.
Atlas Cedarwood builds the foundation.
Leather introduces texture.
Labdanum brings warmth.
Patchouli grounds the composition.
Ambergris fills the space between every material, creating the illusion of air itself.
Then comes Indian Oud.
Ancient.
Complex.
Spiritual.
A material that feels almost alive.
It isn't here to dominate the fragrance.
It exists to deepen it.
To create a darkness so profound that every brighter note becomes even more radiant by comparison.
One of the final materials that brought the fragrance together was Birch Tar Rectified.
Not for harsh smoke.
Not for campfire effects.
But for its ability to create the sensation of ancient woods, worn leather and the ghost of smoke lingering in the air.
When paired with Cade Oil, something beautiful happens.
The smoke becomes atmospheric rather than literal.
It drifts through the fragrance like memory itself.
The Indian Oud creates the depth.
The Birch Tar creates the shadow.
The Cade creates the movement.
Together they create the illusion of smoke without overwhelming the composition.
That balance took months to achieve
The Cade Oil whispers the illusion of burning wood.
The Ambergris creates atmosphere.
The Leather gives the smoke something tangible.
The Labdanum glows from within.
Nothing competes.
Everything works together.
Every material has a purpose.
Months of refinement taught me that complexity isn't achieved by adding more ingredients.
It's achieved by understanding the role each material plays within the whole.
This fragrance became an exercise in patience.
In restraint.
In balance.
Because true depth isn't created through excess.
It's created through intention.
ONYX SMOKE became the point where every lesson from the collection came together.
The earth.
