VANILLA RAIN is my ode to a story of a boy.
Not a king.Not a scientist.
A twelve-year-old boy named Edmond Albius.
In 1841, on the island of Réunion, he discovered the method of hand-pollinating vanilla orchids.
A simple act that forever changed the story of vanilla.
That story became the inspiration behind this fragrance.
I imagined walking through a vanilla plantation just after tropical rain.
The air heavy with moisture.
The scent of curing vanilla pods drifting from wooden drying houses.
The earth dark and rich beneath your feet.
Rainwater slowly running down cedar beams.
The fragrance begins with my vanilla tincture, capturing the smell of the bean itself before it becomes flavouring or confectionery. Raw. Woody. Creamy. Alive.
Alongside it sits Himalayan cedarwood, crisp, aromatic and terpene-rich. I've always loved how cedar can smell almost luminous after rain, as though the wood itself is breathing.
Sage and fig create the green landscape around it.
Fresh leaves.Humid air.The plantation waking beneath grey skies.
Then the rain arrives.
Sea notes and rain accord move through the composition like island winds rolling in from the coast. Brown sugar adds Texture, not sweetness, evoking vanilla pods slowly curing beneath wooden shelters.
As the fragrance settles, the soul reveals itself.
Vanilla Absolute.
Dark, rich and absolutely beautiful.
Supported by Moss, recreating the weathered drying houses, damp earth and green vegetation surrounding the plantation.
This isn't a vanilla fragrance about desserts.
It's a fragrance about where vanilla comes from.
The people.The rain.The island.
And a young boy whose curiosity changed the world forever.
